Niyati, self and Mama had been to Delhi from 12th September to 17th September to spend some time with Biltu and visit a very close friend of ours Natabar being treated at AIIMS. We stayed at our friend Upendra's residence in East Kidwai Nagar for 6 days. Here Upendra is seen feeding his son Jagan with multiple disabilities.
Here Upendra is seen feeding Jagan his son with multiple disabilities. Upendra heads the Surgical services of the prestigious RML Hospital in New Delhi and we were very close friends much before either Mama was born to us and Jagan to Upendra and Kanak, both doctors like us.Jagan has cortical blindness, cerebral palsy and autism. The degree of disability in Jagan is too severe to make him ambulatory or be proficient in Activities of Daily Living skills. But both Upendra and Kanak have fought hard and are still fighting to make Jagan aquire them. Upendra's father who is around 85 years also lives with them and he too has many disabilities including the effect of multiple strokes and a fracture neck of femur recently and an indwelling catheter for enlarged prostate gland.A week's stay with Upendra and his family made us realise how life can be frighteningbut still immensely livable and what real fighting qualities are. Both Upendra and Kanak never lost their sense of humour and the later narrated anectodes of life without inhibitions and in a very lucid and siple style.
